Frankenstein or, The Modern Prometheuss - Mary Shelley

The Novel That Changed World Literature Forever

A young scientist, driven by an overwhelming desire to conquer death, achieves the impossible: he brings to life a being assembled from human remains. But his moment of triumph soon turns into a nightmare. Rejected, abandoned, and condemned to a life of solitude, the creature embarks on a path of suffering and revenge, while its creator is forced to confront the consequences of his own ambition.

With extraordinary narrative power and themes that remain remarkably relevant today, Mary Shelley created one of the most influential works in world literature. More than 200 years after its publication, the novel continues to captivate readers around the globe. Humanity still cannot answer the question: Do we have the right to interfere with the secrets of nature and divine providence according to our own will?

According to philosophy professor Patricia MacCormack, Frankenstein gives voice to one of humanity's most profound questions: What is the purpose of life, and what should we do with the life we have been given?

The novel inspired the Netflix film directed by Guillermo del Toro, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker behind three Oscars, who has said: "Frankenstein is the most important book of my life."

"A novel that explores the limits of human creativity."
